Congratulations on your engagement, as well as the fact that you’re probably planning an eco-friendly wedding if you’re here!  Finding the perfect wedding dress can be a big enough task on its own. And finding one that’s sustainable can certainly add to the challenge.

Your wedding dress should fit in with the overall design concept of your wedding, and it should make you feel stunning! So don’t just grab any wedding dress off the rack for the sake of being eco-friendly because you don’t think you have many options. You have a ton of beautiful, sustainable options!

There are a lot of sustainable wedding dress companies, such as Wear Your Love and Reformation, that you can purchase from online. But if you’re looking for a wedding shop around Pittsburgh where you can try on dresses in person and bring your friends and family members along, you’ve come to the right place.

Below are 6 Pittsburgh wedding dress shops to consider when shopping for your sustainable wedding. But before we head into that discussion, let’s talk about how to identify an eco-friendly wedding dress in the first place.

(And P.S. If you need help designing an eco-friendly wedding, check out my post on Eco-Friendly Event Décor!)

How to Find an Eco-Friendly Wedding Dress

When looking for an eco-friendly wedding dress, the idea is to avoid purchasing new. If you’re going to purchase a new wedding dress, consider buying one made from eco-friendly materials like 100% organic cotton or recycled fabrics.

Here are some other ways to find eco-friendly wedding dresses:

·         Search through thrift shops that sell formalwear.

·         Shop consignment bridal shops that sell pre-used wedding dresses or new dresses that might have otherwise gone to waste.

·         Rent your wedding dress.

·         Use a family heirloom (either as is or repurposed).

·         Search vintage/antique shops.

Also, working with an eco-friendly wedding planner can help you find an eco-friendly dress that fits with the overall concept of your wedding.

Where to Look for Eco-Friendly Wedding Dresses in Pittsburgh

I have yet to find a Pittsburgh wedding dress shop that specializes in selling wedding dresses made from sustainable materials. But here are a few other options for finding the perfect sustainable wedding dress in Pittsburgh…

Bridal Maven

Want to shop somewhere that is fully committed to sustainability? Bridal Maven is a Pittsburgh wedding dress consignment shop. Located in Dormont, it’s a gown resale shop that sells used wedding dresses and accessories, as well as sample wedding gowns and gowns with the tags still on that might have otherwise gone to waste.

Style Exchange Boutique

Style Exchange Boutique is a formal consignment shop located in the South Hills. While they sell a variety of items, you can find pre-used special event clothing there, including used wedding dresses and formalwear, as well as shoes and accessories, all for a fraction of the cost of purchasing new. This is a great option for finding used dresses for your bridesmaids if you want a mismatched look.

Treasure House Fashions

Another shop that sells pre-used items where you might be able to find a wedding dress is Treasure House Fashions, located on McKnight Rd. You can also shop their items online via eBay and Poshmark to support this nonprofit’s mission focused on helping women in crisis or transition.

URB Bridal & Formal Boutique

Suits and tuxedos are typically rented for weddings. Why not rent your wedding dress? URB Bridal in Bethel Park sells new wedding gowns but also offers wedding dress rental services. They offer reversible alterations as an optional add-on service.

Update: URB appears to no longer be promoting rental services on their website, but they might have sample gowns. I suggest reaching out to them to ask prior to booking an appointment.

Luxe Redux Bridal

Another Pittsburgh wedding consignment shop is Luxe Redux Bridal. Located in Lawrenceville, this wedding consignment shop sells sample wedding gowns that may have otherwise gone to waste in someone’s closet or sitting on a rack. The shop gets dresses from both companies and individuals.

Clarissa Boutique

Do you already have a gown that’s been handed down to you from a family member? Clarissa Boutique can repurpose family heirlooms, including gowns, veils, jewelry, and accessories, and make them uniquely yours so that you don’t have to purchase new. This bridal shop is also located in Lawrenceville.

MB Bride

Is there a particular wedding attire shop that you’ve had your eyes on? See if they sell any dresses that aren’t new. While MB Bride in Greensburg primarily sells new wedding gowns, they also sell some forfeited, mis-ordered, and sample dresses.

A Final Tip Regarding Eco-Friendly Wedding Dresses

Forego getting your wedding dress preserved with harsh chemicals after your big day. Instead, either donate your dress or sell it to a consignment shop quickly after the wedding so that someone else can love it too. (Many consignment shops won’t buy dresses after a certain period of time).
