Cheerful Garden Party Wedding at Pittsburgh Botanic Garden

A Relaxed and Joyful Pittsburgh Botanic Garden Wedding

When Jordyn and Justin began planning their wedding at Pittsburgh Botanic Garden, they knew exactly how they wanted the day to feel: cheerful, welcoming, and low-pressure.

Rather than creating a day filled with formalities and attention-grabbing moments, they focused on spending meaningful time with the people they love most. Their vision centered around a relaxed garden party atmosphere where guests could enjoy beautiful surroundings, great food, and genuine connection, all while making intentional choices to reduce waste and prioritize sustainability.

With approximately 150 guests in attendance, their wedding combined thoughtful planning, personal details, and intentional choices that reflected who they are as a couple.

Jordyn & Justin's Love Story

Jordyn and Justin balance each other beautifully.

Jordyn describes herself as creative, organized, and a bit of a planner. She enjoys painting, arts and crafts, spending time outdoors, and collecting an impressive tea selection. Justin loves technology, recently built his own computer, enjoys cooking, and is rarely without a cup of coffee nearby. Together, they enjoy video games, taking walks, and simply spending time together.

Their proposal perfectly reflected their relationship.

After designing a custom engagement ring using Jordyn's great-grandmother's diamond, Justin managed to surprise even his highly organized bride-to-be. Knowing Jordyn expected a proposal during a walk outdoors, he chose a different approach. Before a visit to her parents' home, he proposed unexpectedly on their balcony overlooking the mountains, creating a meaningful and memorable moment that Jordyn still treasures today.

Why They Chose Pittsburgh Botanic Garden

For a couple who loves nature, Pittsburgh Botanic Garden provided the perfect setting.

Jordyn frequently mentioned how much she enjoys spending time outdoors, whether visiting local parks or simply sitting in nature. The garden setting aligned perfectly with the cheerful, sweet, and welcoming atmosphere they envisioned for their wedding day.

The venue's natural beauty complemented their garden party aesthetic while allowing guests to feel comfortable and connected throughout the celebration.

Choosing Pittsburgh Botanic Garden also reflected their shared appreciation for nature and their desire to host a celebration in a space that felt aligned with their values. The venue’s natural setting created a built-in design element, allowing them to lean into the beauty of the landscape rather than overproducing decor.

A Cheerful & Sustainable Garden Party Design

Jordyn's design vision blended cottagecore charm with bright, cheerful colors. Inspired by her love of florals, gardens, and handmade details, the wedding featured a palette centered around lilac, pink, and touches of light green accented with gold elements.

Low centerpieces floral bud vases and teapots and teacups filled mint, basil, and oregano helped create a true garden atmosphere for guests.

One of the most meaningful personal touches was Jordyn's handcrafted seating chart. She repurposed a poster board by painting the lotus pond at Pittsburgh Botanic Garden, with plans to later repurpose it by displaying the artwork in their home. It was a creative, low-waste design choice that reflected both her artistic personality and the couple’s commitment to making thoughtful, sustainable decisions throughout the planning process.

Their design choices were also rooted in sustainability. Jordyn sourced many decor elements secondhand and incorporated handmade details throughout the wedding, proving that thoughtful, personal design can be both environmentally conscious and deeply meaningful.

Prioritizing Comfort Over Tradition

One of the most important aspects of wedding planning for Jordyn and Justin was creating an experience that felt comfortable.

Neither enjoys being the center of attention. Throughout the planning process, every effort was made to reduce unnecessary stress and create a calm, organized environment where the couple could fully enjoy their day.

One recommendation that proved especially valuable was scheduling a first look and vows before the ceremony. This private moment allowed Jordyn and Justin to spend time together before guests arrived, helping ease nerves and creating a more relaxed experience throughout the day.

The couple also intentionally streamlined traditional wedding elements, focusing less on spotlight moments and more on genuine interaction with family and friends.

Sustainable Wedding Planning Rooted in the Couple’s Values

At Eco & Ivory Events, sustainability is at the core of every planning process. Through partial planning support, I helped Jordyn and Justin create a wedding that reflected both their personal values and the guest experience they wanted to prioritize.

Together, we focused on intentional decisions that reduced waste without sacrificing beauty or functionality. From partnering with sustainable florist Copper Petal Florals to incorporating zero-waste stations, renting china for dinner service, and choosing compostable items where needed, each detail was selected with care. The couple also sourced pre-loved decor pieces and arranged for leftover florals to be donated after the celebration through Scent with Love, extending the life of their wedding flowers beyond the event itself.

Beyond sustainability, the planning process was tailored to support Jordyn and Justin’s emotional comfort and overall experience. With thoughtful coordination around family dynamics, guest logistics, and a timeline designed to minimize stress, every element of the day was built to help them feel present, grounded, and able to fully enjoy their celebration.

Their wedding is a reminder that sustainable wedding planning is about more than reducing waste. It’s about making intentional choices that align with your values, support your people, and create a celebration that feels authentic to you.

A Celebration Focused on Connection

What stands out most about Jordyn and Justin's wedding is how authentically it reflected them.

From the colorful garden party design to the handmade seating chart and relaxed atmosphere, every decision centered on creating a day that felt genuine rather than performative.

As Jordyn shared during the design process, they wanted guests to remember that they stayed true to themselves, welcomed everyone as they are, and never took themselves too seriously. Their wedding was a celebration of love, laughter, and connection, and that's exactly what it became.
